As many of you have seen or heard, one of our members, Juan Colon, has a not-for-profit that raises money and awareness for educating teachers about autism and how to teach students who are on the autism spectrum. Their aim is to assist educators in helping families and their children with autism to achieve success by giving the teachers the tools, training and support they need to understand how to best unlock the child's learning potential. They are providing on-site training and workshops to educators, resources for their classrooms, and helping with communication between families, therapists and educators.
Stella's Stars is preparing for their Kick Off fundraising event in April. Please keep an eye out for event information, plan to attend as well as pass this information off to those you know that are either in the education field or have family that is on the austism spectrum.
Juan and his wife could also use some volunteers to help set up for the event. To volunteer your help, please contact:
Also, for those of you who have not already purchased a Tshirt from Juan, please do so. They are $15 each and are great to show support for autism awareness and for our fellow firefighter who is representing us well in his quest to help educators and families of autistic children.
